FOSTER INFORMATION

Here’s a few Question & Answers about fostering with us:

  • How long will I have a foster animal?

    • The average foster stay is about 3 weeks. Every animal must remain in rescue for at least 2 weeks so we can assess their health, get them spayed/neutered, and learn about their personality. Some may stay longer depending on age, medical needs, or adoption interest. If something comes up, we can help arrange respite care so you’re never stuck.

  • When will I know if I’m approved to foster?

    • We aim to respond within a few days after reviewing your application, calling references, and completing a vet check. Be sure your references know we’ll reach out by text or phone — that helps us move faster!

  • Can I adopt my foster animal if I fall in love?

    • Yes! Fosters get the first chance to adopt. Just let us know within the first few days so we don’t begin processing outside adoption applications.

  • What do I need to provide as a foster?

    • We provide most supplies including food, crates, litter, and medical care. You provide a safe, loving home, socialization, and regular updates so we can promote your foster for adoption.

  • What happens if I go on vacation or get busy?

    • No worries! Just let us know ahead of time, and we’ll arrange respite foster coverage or delay your next foster match.

  • What if the foster doesn’t get along with my pets or family?

    • We’ll work with you to find the best fit before placement, and we’re here to help if adjustments are needed. In some cases, we can move the animal to another home quickly if it’s not working out.

  • How do vet visits work?

    • All vet care is covered by the rescue and coordinated through our approved vet partners. We may ask for your help with transportation, or help arrange a volunteer to assist.

  • What kind of animals can I foster?

    • We place dogs and cats of all ages and sizes. You can specify your comfort level with age, behavior, size, etc., and we’ll do our best to match you with a foster that fits your home.

  • How do I help my foster get adopted?

    • Share photos, videos, and updates regularly! We use your info to create adoption listings and social media posts. You can also help by attending events or talking to interested adopters (optional but appreciated!).

  • I’m not on Facebook. How do I stay updated?

    • No problem! We communicate via email and text as well. If you know someone fostering who isn’t on social, help us stay in the loop by sharing their updates or having them text the rescue line.
